Happy New Year!

January is rolling in with its own set of challenges and opportunities. I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, along with resources that might resonate with you.

Embracing Change and Focus:

As the new year unfolds, I’ve decided to switch up my work environment, experimenting with a coworking space. Juggling maintenance issues at home has been a task, but I’m discovering a surprising focus in the comfort of my own space. The constant battle with distractions and the elusive concept of time persists, but I’m finding ways to navigate through.

Overcoming Challenges with Unique Strategies:

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit discombobulated, caught between the chaos of maintenance and the sensory intensity and novelty of a shared workspace. Binaural beats have become my go-to tool in this journey of balancing calls, seeking privacy, and managing context switches. It’s a challenge, but there’s beauty in finding creative solutions. Another thing I’ve rediscovered is Calmer by Flare Audio. They’re silicone ear sleeves that help cut distortion in sound and make me a lot calmer. I wore them to a New Year’s Eve party and was able to follow and make sense of conversations in a way that was shocking to me. I told someone this is like having a sound engineer live in my ears.

Goal Setting for a Dynamic Life:

As I contemplate my goals, I’m realizing that trying to move all the pieces at once seldom works. Three-month goals seem to be the sweet spot, allowing for progress without overwhelming novelty. It’s about finding a rhythm that aligns with the ebb and flow of life. I’m also focusing more on a word/theme for the year. I’m feeling drawn toward community and all the various ways this can show up in my life!

Tools for Dynamic Planning:

In the pursuit of effective planning, I’ve experimented with various tools like TodoistTrello, and Momentum Planners. I need to have both a big or weekly view, but also a way to remind myself of the 5-min type tasks that are important but slip my mind. Like sending an updated Liability insurance document to my Property Manager.

Reflecting on the Past and Looking Forward:

Productive Flourishing offers a valuable year-end review. It prompts reflection on the past year and setting intentions for what lies ahead. Currently, my focus is on creating more separation between work and home. What aspirations do you hold for the year?

Returning to Basics:

Among the grand plans, there’s a need to revisit the basics. I’m revamping my intake and accounting processes, bringing on part-time help, and revisiting tiny habits that contribute to a well-rounded approach.

I’d love to hear your goals and insights for the year. How can you feel like you’re part of a community? What changes, if any, might you want to make?
